Native Amerian Studies Class
This class has taught me a lot of new information. I now know more about Native Americans just what I knew about. There are a lot of neat things that I have taken from this class. I think it was worth while taking this class even though it's almost like a history class but you learn more about another culture and get the chance to see what they think on certain topics. The difference between this class and a regular high school class is that the class is longer and also it's more of a lecture then like in high school when we do worksheets and more hands on activities. This class has taught me how to take my own notes since I was use to having the teacher give me my notes and just study from them but in lectures yeah the teacher gives you notes but it's up to us to write some more down to do much better on tests.

Job Shadowing
The job shadowing was really helpful and I was able to ask a lot of questions that I had concerns about. I got the chance to really know what area of study I want to go into and what the requirements are. To me it seemed like a lot of information but once enrolled it will make much more sense and it will be easier to understand. I went to the college of Business Administration and I got to talk to Karen Smyth. Talking to her I found out what's a good plan on receiving the Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration (BSBA) along with Certified Public Accountant (CPS). Also on how it's best that you start in an internship during your junior or senior year in college which is really helpful in the way that you have to the chance to get future job in that internship. She also explained on how you can do double majors that go together very well that are helpful in the workplace because it shows you can do two different studies of area in one.

Essay Questions
What are your achievements?
One of my biggest achievements has been receiving the Academic Excellence Award that is given to juniors and seniors with a grade point of average of a 4.0 or higher. Through out my three years of high school it hasn't been easy maintaining the grades that I have. It takes me a lot of time and effort to stay on task. In order for me to have maintained them this way is by doing more work then what I'm suppose to do on a normal basis. Another achievement has been being the Honor Roll every semester my past three years as well. It's been an honor and I plan on still making it senior year and well in the end my hard work pays off. This year I also joined Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) at my school and my partner and I made it to state for Business Ethics. Preparing for state took a lot of work in editing our final paper on the ethic case and after having it read over 3 times we finally were ready to submit it. Surely enough we got the letter saying that we had made it to state. For state we prepared even more than what we had done before. We took timed practice ones with past cases that had been used. In the end, during state competition we got 6th place out of 8th place. Even though we didn't first through 3rd I still felt accomplished of making it to state and getting the experience of how much competition there is amongst everyone else.
What issues matter to you?
The most important issue that matters to me is immigration. It's a huge topic right now and especially with elections coming up it's a topic that has to be touched on. Many refer to just mexicans when really it's people from other countries as well. Some say that there should be a fence built when it will cost the country a lot of money and I personally think that it will be a waste of money because either way us mexicans still have ways to get around to USA. There are many illegals here in this country that have respected the law and who work hard everyday to have enought money to pay for food, family, and expenses they have. I also think that it's not fair for the parents who get deported and leave their children behind. Families aren't suppose to be separated from eachother. In the end many just want them to go back to Mexico which the government can do that but like i said before they will find a way to get around and also many jobs would lose more than 90% of their workers. These illegals are taking up the jobs that US Americans don't want to have. I know for a fact that no American want's to be a janitor, work at a meat packing plant, in the fields, and many other jobs. Another huge topic is the war in Iraq. There are many troops fighting for this country that have died innocent. After 4yrs. of fighting nothing has been resolved, only more deaths everyday.
Why do you want to attend this school?
UNO has always been my top choice college and I've heard great things about it. Also with the many times I've been on campus to me the instant I step foot, I feel like I'm at home. I enjoy all the opportunities they have to offer and also because they have a great diversity of people from different ethnic backgrounds. Everyone on campus is willing to help with any questions or concerns and also because it's here in the Omaha metro area which is clos to home. Many scholarships are offered yearly for upcoming freshmen for example the Goodrich and the Susan Buffet scholarship which I plan on applying for and hopefully meet the requirements needed. Of the people that I know, the majority of some friends graduated from UNO or are attending UNO and they say that it's a great to school in which they have really good resources that can help you with assistance in anything. Along with on some occasions I've met some of the staff members before from other events that I've gone to.
My mom has been an influence on me. She's taught me a lot of lessons. From her experience as a young child and the olderst of 8 children she has worked a lot during her life. She was born in Mexico and came here to the USA and worked as well, but she had surgery on her back almost 2yrs. ago and from her i learned that education is something that everyone needs. She only attended up to sixth grade and she always is constantly checking up on us with our grades. From her I've learned that I want to be somebody in life and have an education to go far. I want to make her proud of me when I graduate with my Master's in Business Administration but first of all I have to graduate from High School since it will be an honor to be the first one in my family.

Blog #1
1. The most encouraging and motivating about summer scholars to me has been having this opportunity. It's great meeting others from other schools and what a great personality they have since they are all easy going and everyone knows eachother. What motivated me was coming to class and learning more things about my native american class and more about college in the way that everyone can go just they need to find a way to get that dream come true.
2. The most challenging thing has been keeping up with the reading from the class. Like everyone else in high school they think that they can still pass the class without having to read each night, but in college it's not like that. Even though it's a lot of reading it helps a lot to understand the class. The teacher gives lectures but most of the information on the test comes from the book than the lectures. I know that there are WAY better things to do than reading but if you want to pass the class, you're going to have to read.
3. I learned a lot about myself. I've learned about my personality and how the way I interact with my other peers. I know how much I can challenge myself and what to expect from me. I was somewhat afraid of heights but going to Ashland, NE and doing the obstacles up high from 35 -45 ft. I faced a fear of heights and in the end it wasn't so bad after all. I really wanted to do it again.
4. The differences that has made on me is having the chance to take this class. I know what is expected in college along with learning some new study tips on how to pass the class successfully. Living on campus has also been a great opportunity. It was a way to get to know everyone better and decided whether it would be something I'd like to do in the future about living on campus. These are some things I've taken in consideration for when making my college decision.
